Video response to Josephine Meckseper's short Amalgamated, 2010

Initially, I am not sure if I understand the point of the 'film'. Listening to it without sound first gave me a completely different feel for it than it did with the sound turned up. I like the sound on its own but the way it makes the video feel is off-putting to me. I'm also really not fond of most sound instillation pieces in general. Without the sound, the focus was more about architecture and composition within the built space and objects. The video, with sound, leaves me with a feeling of desire to know more about the contexts but at the same time, leaves me so displeased that I am glad it is not longer. And maybe that's the point of the video? To make me feel something that only sounds could invoke. I feel I now have a better appreciation for sound instillation, but they still are too new of a concept for me. Maybe with more personal research and insight I will gain an even better understanding of this new media.
