Thoughts for my final project: cemetery collage

The final project for my Art 322 is about Space, Place and Pointed Invention dealing with visual density through various design techniques and skills. It has to be a space that I can visit daily and one that can be represented in many different ways visually. The language of the piece deals with composition and different emotional values from the space as well as visual references through drawing and other media. I instantly thought of the cemetery near my house. I have done many photo shoots in that cemetery and I feel a certain connection with that location on many different levels (physically and emotionally). It is the perfect space for me to interact with, and quite possibly an unexpected space to deal with. For me, death is a part of life and should not be feared but rather embraced by those who are still alive. Despite particular ideals about grave yards, I find peace in those locations for many different reasons; specifically to that one due to my frequent visits there. I have always connected with the past and feel that the cemetery is just one way to reconnect with times lost. The timid nature of most people about cemeteries is very odd to me since I find comfort within them. Hopefully I will be able to achieve an image that involves different emotional states within that site; since every one reacts differently to death (despite my feelings towards it) I hope to involve other ideals as well, while still showing my individual feelings towards the space. I will post more as time progresses.
